Rolex has unveiled the new generation of the Air-King at this year’s Watch & Wonders with a completely redesigned case, including crown protection. Needless to say, historically, the Autavia was a base collection for the TAG Heuer name, but it seems to have fallen out of favor over the years. At its inception, it was a collection composed entirely of chronographs – a complication for which the heavily racing brand is famous. For the past decade or so, Autavia brand tag heuer replica watches have effectively only been released in the form of a return to a design with only the TAG Heuer logo. Minor differences in the dial exist, but they are not worth mentioning except that the white dial version no longer has glossy hands and hour markers. 226 570 has steel colored hands and hour markers on the black dial version, in addition to being coated with Rolex’s Chromalight luminous material. I think, for me, what really makes this Daytona variant a risky watch is the fact that nowhere on the dial can you find the name it is most often used by. Inspired in large part by our conversation luxury replica watches with Daniel Dae Kim and his Cosmograph, the absence of Daytona text on the dial makes it seem more subtle. I’ve been on a real kick after our military watch inspired series a few weeks ago. Sure, I always enjoy looking at the round T dials of the Mil-Subs and Seamaster 300s in auction catalogs, but I’ve never delved into the subgenre of vintage watches represented by the military-issued pieces. Today we may take it for granted, but the concept of standardized time zones did not appear organically in the past. On the contrary, it had to be formalized. Actually, it was only in 1884, at the International Meridian Conference in Washington D.C., when diplomats agreed to adopt a single Prime Meridian (located in Greenwich, England). This made a great contribution to the standardization of global time zones.
It’s until in 1931, Swiss watchmaker Louis Cottier announced a complication capable of displaying the times of the 24 time zones. Cottier’s world times mechanism smartly used a rotating bezel inscribed with 24 major cities, each represents a different time zone. After not long Patek Philippe was interested in Cottier’s world time complication.
